About Art Spirit

Art Spirit is an art and lifestyle company built to carry art into daily life — art you can wear, live with, and make your own.

The Company

Art Spirit is an art and lifestyle company built around a single system of elements and totems. The system begins with a short test that names your element and your totem; from there, the house turns art into pieces of daily life: hand-painted original garments painted once for one owner, limited print editions drawn from those garment designs, and one-of-one custom commissions. Behind the clothing stands a series of totem paintings on canvas, made for exhibition as the company's artistic foundation. Everything the house makes follows one belief: you are the artist of your life.

Founder

Founder of Art Spirit, the company built to carry art into daily life. The company stands on her own foundation as an artist.

Amanda Du founded Art Spirit. Her career had already moved across art, design and technology companies; the founding idea stayed close to her first training: art changes the life around it, and daily life is where that change should reach — the wardrobe included.

Art Spirit is an aesthetics company built around its founder. The house holds the systems and product lines she creates, in a structure made to grow; she sets their standard, language and direction.

Today the house runs three lines: hand-painted original garments, each painted once and worn by one owner; limited print editions taken from those garment designs; and the Ten Totems paintings, an exhibition series on canvas. The frame is deliberate: future lines in art and daily life join the same house as they are ready.

Post-Symbolist artist

Her foundation is the painting itself. Amanda Du is an artist whose work joins Eastern wisdom with contemporary painting. She trained at the Academy of Arts & Design at Tsinghua University, completing her master's degree in 2012, and held a visiting scholarship at Parsons School of Design in 2010. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Louvre in Paris and the Beijing New Media Art Triennial.

In May 2025, Amanda Du proposed Post-Symbolism: a way of painting in which the totem appears as a temporary form of energy, emerging and dissolving, and meaning happens in the encounter between the work and its viewer. The Ten Totems series — ten paintings, each 24 × 48 inches in acrylic — is the first body of work painted under this proposal. Her full statement and manifesto live on the framework page.

Collector

Alongside her own practice, she collects contemporary work with a focus on women artists, and writes about the paintings she lives with. Collecting keeps her painting honest: she knows what it means to choose a work and keep it for years.

Art advisor

She advises private clients on acquiring contemporary art and on building small, coherent collections. Advisory work sits inside the company's practice and grows out of the same eye that paints and collects.

Background

Before founding Art Spirit, she worked in user experience and product design at Google, Microsoft and Baidu in Beijing, and founded companies across tools, media and education technology — one of which was acquired by a fintech company that later listed on the NYSE. In 2018 she founded children's art education programmes in China, and from 2019 taught art classes in the United States. She serves as a board director of PAWA-US and as chair of a U.S. alliance for women's empowerment and influence.
