Yayoi Kusama is a core postwar and contemporary artist for collectors studying repetition, immersive experience, and the long arc between avant-garde practice and global recognition.

About the Artist

Yayoi Kusama was born in Matsumoto, Japan, in 1929 and studied nihonga before moving to New York in 1958. Her early years in New York placed her near the postwar avant-garde, where painting, performance, installation, and public action became connected parts of her practice.

Her visual language is built on dots, nets, repetition, accumulation, and the idea of infinity. Infinity Net paintings, soft sculptures, mirrored environments, pumpkins, and participatory rooms form different routes into the same psychological and spatial system.

Kusama has been presented by major institutions including Tate, MoMA, the Hirshhorn Museum, and Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Her work is held in leading public collections, giving collectors a rare combination of popular visibility, institutional depth, and a highly recognizable visual language.
